Turning Underfloor Air Distribution on Its Head

JDB Engineering was commissioned by global manufacturer YORK International Corp., now part of Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) for several projects at their York headquarters.

The first project entailed design and construction services for the lower level of the corporate headquarters to create the YORK Institute, a 12,000 sq. ft. training facility for customers and prospects throughout the world.

The Institute features the new AirFixture System®, a ductless HVAC system that is revolutionizing the industry.  The concept is essentially an overhead "underfloor" air distribution system.  The low pressure airways reduce fan energy and operating costs by as much as 30%.

Because the York Institute was designed as a training facility, JCI wanted to showcase this new technology, which was one of the first applications of the system in the country.

Spaces within the Institute include lobby, training rooms, conferencing, and work areas. A high-end teleconferencing system was also installed.
