This College can HACC It

JDBE provided Integrated engineering design to renovate an existing industrial space and convert it into a community college. The unusual adaptive reuse project was full of challenges associated with taking a former manufacturing space and creating an inviting educational environment.

Sustainable design features were a major part of the building program. The space renovated was long and narrow, so bringing daylighting deep into the interior spaces - without skylights - was a key project challenge. Studies have shown a direct correlation between natural lighting and enhanced learning. Building reuse, energy efficient HVAC and lighting systems, thermal windows, and water-efficient landscaping are additional Green features.

This project has been conducted in phases: the first three are complete, and JDBE is currently working on the fourth and final phase of the project.
